November 26th 2008 is one of the “worst” day each & every Indian wanna forget! @ the same time its the same day that boiled every Indians blood!! YES! This is a W.A.R isn’t it? likely a new faced one..so far people heard only of war in borders & this new one is getting into “heart” of a country & firing! Impact of such attacks is far worst than that of in borders…bcz ….civilians are the victims!! I don’t wanna write all the details which might be “guess” es on this Mumbai attack. I will share some of my observations on this which might be true or false, I don’t mind, but would like to share.

Whats different in this war?

I have a close friend in Mumbai & I called him yday (thank god…hes fine). He passed through CST Railway just 2 hrs before the attack & its a different experience to hear the words from a guy who’s on the war front! ahh! 3 or 4 guys just coming into railways wearing T-shirts & jeans, buying platform tickets…then firing! What can poor people do?? What these innocent guys did to the f**k-ing terrorists? What kinda revenge is this? Police men rushed to the spot but it was a new idea for them to face AK-47 firing with a single pistol. Thank god…..& for the minister (or a police guy or a team) who thought of deploying NSG commandos to the front immediately! Commandos were able to throw off terrorists from CST railways immediately & my friend still made two trips yday through that station.

Why delay of operations in Taj & Trident?

These are 7 star hotels-multi storied (50+ or ?) with 600+ rooms. Commandos are facing a stiff fight here…they dunno in which room these terrorists are…in which room civilians are…they cant just fire…bcz..they need to save civilians & foreigners….what a stiff fight? Its more easy to fire in Tiger Hills (bcz no worry of saving innocent people) as its pure fight…inch 2 inch!

What difference this attack will make ?

Compared to the previous ones which include the series blasts, I will say, this one has created a “Red Alert” in all peoples mind! Unlike previous attacks which were planned & executed in Local streets, local shoppig centres, markets this one is pure face to face firing! Moreover they targetted Taj, Trident & Oberoi! This created a kinda fear on the rich & rulers! It was poor & the common man who suffered in terrorists street bombing & explosions! The “rich” & the “rules” was of a “closed eyes” attitude till Nov.26th…might  b bcz of feeling….”hey man…I live in Taj & Oberoi….no f**k ing terror will come there! I am protected with forces…I m safe!” The rulers were all busy saving there political images…but now situations changed! Fear will haunt one only if he gets a feel of being attacked or gonna attack! It will naturally haunt all rich & rules….bcz…Taj & Trident were the “safe” residents of these..ppl. Now they might have the feeling…”OMG! what a f**k is this? me too lived in Taj…& often I visit…all places getting attacked…what if I was there on that day…that time?” Yaa!! thats it…this will boil there blood tooo. A kinda “red alert” in all people including the rich…rulers…common indian….which transforms all into “one Indian“

Yday I watched MM news @ 9 pm & I saw a different kinda interview…a news anchor throwing qns @ diff ppl like Major Ravi (who was a commando & involved in major operations like capturing Rajeev Gandhi assasinators), Mr. Sreenivas ( a political strategeist & handled foreign affairs for a long time). I analysed the different perspectives of a politician ( a beaurocrat too) & an army major! At this stage I feel, we all should be with Major Ravi’s point of view! Sreenivas detailed many shits abt this attack, like it might be Al-q-aeda, attack was against Israelis & the US, they are attacking foreigners here bcz they cant traverse 10K miles & execute!! what shitt? it might be a true or not? but as a country India is wounded! Its not the US or Israel who sheds blood in the name of attack against there ppl in some 3rd places! Like Major said, “What ever may be the reason, who ever may be behind this, that doesn’t matter. What matters is they planned & executed this in India. Its India whos wounded…injured…lost her sons & daughters! consider it as a W.A.R…an OPEN WAR! We must fight back! We have to define a new kinda punishment for such people! Dont let them give the mercy of judiciary…its just WAR! its not public violance…or a riot…or any shit! Its W.A.R!”

so thats it! I feel major is right.

What smells fishy?

Its pretty difficult to plan & execute such a “connected” operation in India without local support! How the ship that carried all these weapons fooled the coast guards? How this 32+ young terrorists footed in India without anyone noticing them? yday..an army official said…he dont know any such lonely coastal area anywhere in Mumbai!! Its damn sure…a local support! may be rulers or ? What I plead is India should unite @ this stage and we must kill all those whos behind this deadly attack!

I still remember, I read the words of our IAF (Indian Air Force) chief months back & was like ” just give me 3 hrs, I & my IAF will finish a too small country like pakistan“  I feel like, why limit in 3 hrs, just give him 1 day or a 2 ?! its not to fight pakistan but to eliminate all those terrorist camps!

I am stopping this article with my “STANDUP SALUTE” to ATS chief Mr.Karkare & other encounter specialists who gave their life for India & its sons & daughters. A “THUMBS UP” for all the commandos & fighters on the WAR front! I pray for the lives of all civilians & our guest foreigners!

We (me & John) were on the way to CUSAT for attending National Conference on Free software but made a quick turn to NH-47, on way we decided to visit the newly opened Oberon mall. Its in NH-47 hardly 200 meters on the Idappally-Vytilla route (Left side). Parked our pulsar on the huge underground area (parking is free now-may be bcz of opening). We walked up to the entrance & an automated door gave us a warm welcome. First step into the oberon fired flashes of a Bangalore trip we (same …me & John) had made while we were final year engineering students. Most of that 1 week trip we used to spent in malls, mux & pubs hanging out! First look @ oberon resembles the Forum mall in build,style& no.of floors. This mall is still under construction so its full beauty is yet to be enjoyed.

We saw small outlets of Baskin Robins & Yamaha @ ground floor. A lot of space @ gf is yet to be occupied & the “bRandZ” designer jewellery showroom is worth a look – where you can find a decent collection of varieties. Major portion of the 1st & 2nd floor is occupied by Reliance Group! Reliance is like a VIRUS which spreads into all sectors of business. Of all the 3 Reliance shops (Footprint, TimeOut & Trendz) I liked Trendz & TimeOut a lot. Footprint store of Reliance which sells footwears is not upto mark! Reliance Trendz is an amazing place for gents to shop dresses especially jeans & shirts (Tees also!) A damn good collection @ mix of prices ranging from medium to high can be found. You can get a decent blue jeans for Rs.500 & if you wanna high end..no worries..you can find that of Rs.2000. T-shirts starting from Rs.250 & casual shirts in medium range can be found. For girls if you are modern type who is searching for jeans & shirts you will be satisfied but if you are a type who wanna laches,churidars & other stuffs…you wont be that happy! Saree collection is not up to mark! (Actually I dunno ur styles & stuffs but a first look tells me like this).

Reliance TimeOut is just a copy of The Landmark store in Forum mall Bangalore. You can find a lot of CD’s, DVD’s, Collectors version like Rafis, Rays, SPB’s, Speilbergs, ….a lot! The collection that will catch you in TimeOut is Books! Now its the best collection available in Kerala…but its very very poor compared to Landmark. This store in oberon doesn’t have even 10% of the Landmark collection of Bangalore but I will say they managed to grab all categories ranging from comic,drama,fiction,sex,management to cooking! Apart from these two sections many other MASALA items can be found in TimeOut like coffe shop with a damn attracting smell of coffe all around (still we didn’t fall!!!) , flowers, stationeries etc….Reliance seems to collect every coin of the Indian consumer!

70% of the 1st floor & 2nd floor is occupied by Reliance & a chat with the Reliance salesman (a friend of mine) got me the idea that daily sales in Reliance Trendz alone is 15 Lakhs!!

Top two floors are still under construction & this mall lacks a MUX like PVR (in Forum) or an INOX (in Garuda Bangalore). To end this mall forms the base of a smart or even smarter Cochin!

I am looking forward to visit the LULU Mall (under construction in Idapally) which claims to be the Biggest Mall in India with a Marriot Hotel in one floor & 7 MUX-es!! They titled it as “WORLD OF HAPPINESS” – lets see will they make it ?

Thats the question! How to optimise your images, so that your site/blog gets a good visibility in Search Engines? Answer is simple, only requirement is be aware of certain facts & criterias that Search Engines consider while indexing images.

1. Use JPG format for all your photos & GIF format for all other graphical representations. Search Engines index JPG images a lot more compared to other formats.
2. Use ORIGINAL pictures – always! Upload it to your server, integrate your Logos, Trademarks etc.
3. Naming the Image is a great technique. Name the image in most Search Friendly manner. Eg: If you are writing a post about filmstar Aishwarya Rai or Angelina Jolie, upload an image of same people, then NAME that image like “Angelina Jolie photo” or “Angelina Jolie pic” or just “Angelina Jolie”. Similarly if you are writing a technology article realted to Windows vista, just upload a vista image – after renaming it as “Windows Vista tips” or “Windows vista tweaks” . Use your sense & find out more!
4. TAGS – can do a good help in optimising images. Write the most appropriate TAGS for your images. Eg: If its a post related to Windows vista, use TAGS like “Windows”, “Vista” “Windows Vista” etc.
5. DESCRIPTION:- Write a small (20 to 30 words) description about your topic. It must be relevent or matching with the article you are writing.
6. Including 4 or 5 images of same nature ( i mean related to a single topic) in your article will do good. Search Engines will think you are giving a small gallery of topic. Name all those images related. (Dont use same names for all images)
7. Give an apt TITLE for your image. Title can be same as Image Name itself. No problem but if you can find some other options better!
8. Use THUMBNAIL of the image in your main article & LINK to Larger Image from thumbnail.
9. Always use a good resolution image like 800*600 or more good than that.
10. If you can Optimise the image page – it will also do a lot good. Add some “one liners” small descriptions etc on the image page. More over it will be damn great if you can enable “COMMENTING” option in the image page. All the comments will add to content volume in the image page leading to more optimisation.

Additional Techniques:

1. Add a RATING option for your image. This will increase the interactivity & Search Engines always love User Interactive pages.

2. HOT LINKING your image page is another option. Eg: If you are running a celebrity site, COPY the image page of some filmstar say “Helen Hunt”. Now goto many related forums,blogs etc & LINK to this page from those forums by starting threads, replying to posts, making comments etc. If you are a Technology webmaster or something else, Go & find out Forums,Social medias, Blogs etc related to your TOPIC & LINK back.

3. Increase LINK to this image from your own site. Eg: You are writing an article on Windows Vista – at the end of article LINK to one of your images or to entire gallery with an anchor text like: “VIEW PICTURES OF WINDOWS VISTA” Sure! It will do good.

4. Hot Link from popular image sharing sites like Flickr,imageshack etc.

Its 100% guaranteed that with a good effort in optimising all the images in your site, you can drive an additional 30% traffic from searches alone. Its about an organisation named “MAD-Making A Difference” started 2 years ago in Cochin.

It all started when we decided to start teaching English in YMCA poor boys home. When we started our goals were simple… spent some time with the kids, teach them some English, show them couple of movies and basically have some fun with them. But a few days with them changed us completely.The students we taught were exceedingly capable and mature than the normal kids you find in the private schools. They were aware of the realities of life and they knew they had to work hard to escape them. But in spite of all the hard work and effort put in by them we knew that hardly any of these kids will ever study beyond the 12 th grade. Almost all of them are forced to drop out after their 10 th or 12 th and would end up doing some menial jobs in workshops and hotels rendering all those years of education useless and all their potential wasted. These kids are also unaware of the different options they have after 12 th and without any support from their families or friends, they soon welt.This is when we realized something had to be done. We understood that life was unfair to these children but if we tried we could Make A Difference.

What attracted me?

There are millions of charity organisations in this world, a 100+ can be even found in Cochin alone! If MAD was also one like that, I wont have given a 2nd look. What inspired me is their uniqueness in helping people, theres a statement in their website “Giving money alone in name of charity will not help people instead it might kill. We do direct the needy children through the right path to unleash their potential, to achieve their goals,to make them understand what life is all about!” This sentence caught my attention as I am having the same idea for a long time! Giving or throwing some money at the poor may give you a fake satisfaction-a feel you have done something for the poor-for the sake of someone-might be for a showup in the society? Ofcourse! Its a great thing, giving money & helping others is great but what if the boy who gets your 1000 rupees dont know what to do with it? What if he dont know how to utilise it effectively? What happens is, he will simply waste the amount by eating,playing, doing all unnecessary stuffs! Instead of creating potential humans out of the poor, we will create 1000’s of smart beggers by giving them money & not teaching them how to use it!?

Make A Difference (M.A.D) is a youth volunteer network that currently functions in the three cities of India-Cochin, Pune and Chennai. 312 volunteers teach more than 1200 underprivileged kids English and computer skills in these three cities to enable them to have better career prospects.
These children live in street shelters and orphanages. Without proper guidance, their lives will go astray. MAD makes sure that they have the proper life skills to make it in life. Then MAD tries to get them placed at jobs where they can live their potential!

What you have to do?

MAD was recently picked as one of fifteen finalists for the International Youth Social Entrepreneur Awards which is a prestigious award bestowed by the Ashoka group. MAD became the only Indian entry in this competition in spite of 521 nominations from 60 odd countries. The final winner will be picked by online voting.

Let’s try and bring pride to our country by spreading word about the achievements of our countrymen. To stand up and be recognized in such a multi-faced international crowd is an achievement in itself.Spread the word the only way we know how to do it.
